with Arin Donovan (they/them), M.Ed, BCBA, LBA

Monday January 10, 2021 12:00p - 1:00p EST

Abstract: White supremacy ideology and colonial powers permeate all sectors of society. Current attempts to address inequalities created by such dogma and tactics involve efforts around diversity, equity, and inclusion. The field of behavior analysis has undertaken DEI initiatives by implementing specific committees, policies, and scholarship initiative which can be described as additive solutions. The data we have regarding outcomes of those programs have not indicated effectiveness. This presentation will address the shortcomings of the current DEI interventions and propose behavioral solutions to addressing structural oppression that are grounded in critical theory and organizational theory.

Learning Objectives for Participants:

  • Participants will be able to define white supremacy and colonialism.
  • Participants will examine current disparities in the field of behavior analysis.
  • Participants will be able to discuss current solutions to the problems and analyze issues with intervention effectiveness from a behavior analytic perspective.
  • Participants will be able to discuss alternative solutions to structural oppression through critical and organizational theory.
